LG Egypt has announced its strategy to develop products that reduce environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of the products. LG’s Better Life Plan 2030 will reduce carbon emissions from the use of its seven major product, TV, Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Dryers, Residential Air Conditioner(RAC), System Air Conditioner(SAC), Monitors by 20% compared to 2020 by 2030 through energy efficiency improvement, and expand the application of recycled plastics by 2030 (cumulative 600,000 tons).
LG’s strategy is classified into three categories, human, energy, and resources. To reduce the environmental impact on human, LG Electronics has been working to improve home environment for its consumers by replacing hazardous substances, reducing noises from home appliances and adding anti-allergy and anti-bacterial features. LG Electronics’ energy strategy focuses on two key areas: energy efficiency enhancement and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during using and manufacturing. LG Electronics is trying to improve resource efficiency by reducing the use of resources and improving recyclability of products. From the development phase, LG Electronics works to enhance material quality and product structure, and strives to improve product performance while reducing the size and weight based on collaboration with recyclers. To improve recyclability, LG has an internal process in place to manufacture products.
“As an innovative company that creates innovation through products, we hope to fulfill ESG management in the best way we can by increasing emphasis on ESG in existing products and launching new ESG oriented products.” Said Billy Kim, Managing Director of LG Egypt “We will continue to make a positive impact on our planet by applying eco-friendly technology to all newly developed products as well as products that have already been launched. By reducing carbon emitted during product use through advanced technology development and expanding our product portfolio that uses eco-friendly materials, LG will lead better lives through technology until all of the products we release are eco-friendly products.”
LG Electronics considers environmental factors in developing packaging materials as well as in developing products. In 2012, LG established the guidelines for reducing the weight and volume, reuse, and recycling of packaging materials. Based on the guidelines, LG also established the green packaging development process and applied the process to TV.
